“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t–you’re right.”
Henry Ford
Angel Gabriel visited Mary with news about the birth of Jesus. He explained how great He would be and His divine destiny as the long awaited King and Savior of the world. The news was thrilling but Mary had one important question – “How will this be, since I am a virgin?
And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be bornwill be called holy—the Son of God.” Luke 1: 34-35
Mary then made the incredible statement of total surrender – “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.”
Mary’s surrender to the plan sealed the deal. She definitely did not understand everything that would be involved in the process. I don’t even think that the Angel’s explanation really helped because it was all beyond what she could understand – what does it mean for the Holy Spirit to come upon her and the power of the Most High overshadow her? There was no precedence and she did not know what to expect. The only thing she knew for sure was that God was in it. She didn’t have to understand it. God’s word was enough for her!
How many times do we over-analyze the promises of God? Why does it have to make perfect sense before we make a move? Why do we often rely on our intellect to determine what we can or cannot do? Why do we limit God by refusing to yield to His plans? The truth is that we cannot understand God with our finite mind – He is God!
“For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:9
God wants you to simply trust Him. He has great plans for your life but you cannot walk in its fullness until you totally surrender to God. Yield to His plans by declaring like Mary – Let it be unto me according to your word!
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
As we prepare to step into the year 2015, open your heart to receive everything God has for you. Embrace all that God wants to do in you and through you. Pray for the floodgates of heaven to be opened and let the rain of heaven saturate your life to establish you in the perfect will of God. (Click to listen to the song “Let it Rain”)
Yield to God and declare:
I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me!
Let it be unto me according to your word!
Have a truly blessed 2015!
