You have the capacity and potential for much more!
It is easy to identify areas where other people need to grow. However, it takes honesty and the willingness to be vulnerable for personal growth. Before you can improve yourself, you need to know where you are and be willing to make the necessary changes to move from where you are to where you ought to be.
PURIFIED BY THE WORD
The word of God will purify you. Every time you read the Bible or listen to the word of God, it would reveal areas of your life where you need to change or improve. As you get exposed to the word of God, you will be drawn to live a life of excellence. You would seek to be more and more like Jesus.
“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” 2 Timothy 3:16
The word of God would always challenge you to go up higher. Do not ignore the promptings of the Holy Spirit when you read or hear the Word of God.
“Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.” James 1:23-24
We are not expected to try to change ourselves. We really cannot do it on our own. The Holy Spirit is willing and eager to help us. All we have to do is be yielded to Him and ask for His help. Let the Holy Spirit lead you to the perfection of God for your life.
GROWTH PAINS
Growth sounds exciting but it does not always feel exciting. Sometimes growth hurts, discipline is boring and diligence feels flat. However, we need to embrace discipline and diligence because they shape our character and perfect the nature of God in us.
Choose growth pains over the pain of regret.
The most important step towards personal growth is recognizing where you are right now. You need to be willing to face the truth about your life. You need to identify areas where you are relying on your strength. You need to identify areas where you are hiding or leaning on a crutch.
Above all, you need to be willing to admit that you need the help of the Holy Spirit. Self-sufficiency is an enemy to maximizing your potential. Do not be deceived, you cannot do it alone.
You do not need a shortcut or some ‘10 steps to breakthrough’, you need the Holy Spirit
Begin your journey to growth by identifying where you are today and allowing the Holy Spirit to take you to where you ought to be. Do not despise the progress you have made so far. Be thankful for where you are in your personal growth.
“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin…” Zechariah 4:10
Enjoy where you are on the way to where you are going.
COMFORT ZONE
You need to be willing to exchange familiarity for destiny. Sometimes discomfort is exactly what we need to get motivated for more.
When things get rough, the solution is not always to back off. Challenges should be viewed as opportunities for growth. Be willing to stretch – even when you feel you might break.
“Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.” I Corinthians 13:12
Finally, growth is a process and the key is to keep growing. Never get to a point where you feel complacent.
“The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. Proverbs 4:18”
Have a wonderful weekend.
