This is what the LORD says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you… Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the LORD will be with you.
II Chronicles 20:15, 17
The servant of Elisha woke up to discover they were surrounded by an army with horses and chariots, ready to capture Elisha. He panicked and reported the dire situation to the prophet, who was uncharacteristically calm under the circumstances.
“Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.” II Kings 6:16-17
Elisha was able to stay calm because he knew he was surrounded by God. You and I can remain calm in the midst of the storm for the same reason. The God who surrounded Elisha is surrounding us
“As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people both now and forevermore.” Psalm 125:2
Do not be afraid or discouraged by the battle. Open your eyes of faith and see God surrounding you.
You will not need to fight in this battle. Take your position – show up, ask again, apply again, take the test again – then stand still and watch the LORD’s victory.
You are surrounded by God and victory is guaranteed.
