What makes you come alive?
In the classic movie, Chariots of fire (based on a true life story), Eric Liddell made the profound statement:
“I believe God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast. And when I run I feel His pleasure. To give that up will be to hold Him in contempt. It’s not just fun, to win is to honor Him”
When do you feel God’s pleasure? What are you passionate about? What is that one thing that comes naturally to you? What excites you?
For me, it’s writing. I have always loved to write! My earliest memory of writing was making scrapbooks in elementary school and writing stories for the school information board. In high school, I remember writing a mini biography when Princess Diana died. I was so passionate about her story and the circumstances of her death that I wanted everyone to know how special she was.
The world of words endlessly fascinates me and draws me in! I often walk around with a huge smile on my face because I am crafting words in my head and when someone says “hello” at that time, I’ve been guilty of pulling them unexpectedly into the narrative in my head.
Exactly five years ago I decided to be intentional and start sharing my writing with the world. My first blog post – – was published on the 30th September 2013. Re-reading that blog post today further confirms the power of words. The words in autopilot are still so true and honestly more true today! You and I still need to consciously break the gravitational pull of an average life and step out of autopilot. I chose to step out by taking steps towards my dream, and find out what God has in store for me. I have evolved in my writing since autopilot was published but my passion is still the same. My goal is to inspire you and encourage you to be the best of you! That summarizes the WHY for my writing. What is your WHY?
God will help you do what He has called you to do
There is grace for your specific assignment. I don’t feel stressed when I write, I actually unwind with the words. The words flow because God has chosen to inspire me with His words. Like Eric, I feel His pleasure when I write.
Now, it is important to point out that talent is not enough (there’s actually a book with that title). To achieve success, it is important to practice and work hard. Continued action is necessary to achieve and sustain success. In our busy world, it is too easy to postpone action but you need to swim against the tide and take action.
If you do not take control of your life and your time, other people will gobble it all up! Prioritize your dreams and start by taking one step in the direction of your passion today – just one step!
Rearrange your schedule and make time for the things that are truly important. While pursuing your passion might not be urgent, it is extremely important and you need to find time to work at it and win in the margins.
The world is waiting for your manifestation. Be you and be the best you! When it is all over, I pray that like Jesus, you will be able to say:
“I glorified you on earth by completing down to the last detail what you assigned me to do.”
John 17:4 MSG
To be your best is to honor God
